Liza rockin' her Victorian tail bodice with shorts and amazing stockings |
This past weekend Chris and I worked our tails off at the 3rd Annual Steampunk Ball up in Virginia City, Nevada. We did the photography room again this year, and it's quite crazy all night long, but I did get a chance to walk around a bit, and take a few snaps. Here are a collection of photos:
 |
People actually danced! |
 |
Asha World Dancers in their gorgeous belly dance regalia. They performed in "Dr. Belladonna's Medicine Show" prior to the Ball. |
 |
I have no idea who this couple is, but their costumes were awesome, particularly the hats. This was my favorite photo of the night, of the hundreds we took |
 |
Cindy and Corwin, always hamming it up |
 |
Liz and Warren, and their creepy baby doll "Hope" |
 |
Liza, her daughter Anna (right), and their lovely exchange student from Italy, who must've have thought we were all completely mad. |
 |
Tina and her family, with their exchange student from Taiwan, who also must've thought we were all completely mad. |
I wore the big green bustle dress, and had a grand time dragging it around the dirty streets of Virginia City, and the dusty corners of Piper's Opera House. It's not *particularly* Steampunk, but I like to wear quite
historical outfits that also happen to fit the bill, as I find I get more use out of them. Now...what to make for next year?!
There was a whole lot of awesomeness at that ball....and just a little bit of odd!
ReplyDeleteI say a lot of wonderful ODD!
DeleteWhat amazing outfits! I want so many of them! Especially that brown tailcoat! I really want to go to a Steampunk or Victorian ball!
ReplyDeleteSteampunk events are popping up all around - I'm sure there's one in your area. :-)

ReplyDeleteI did the same thing at my local Steampunk ball earlier this year. "I shall make a beautiful historical gown. .. Oh, Steampunk you say? Well then, I shall put a tiny hat on with it." Present them with awesomeness and they will overlook your lack of gears. ;)
ReplyDeletelol! I couldn't have put it better myself. :-D
DeleteI wish I knew about all this before I moved out of northern Nevada. Life for me would so much better if knew. I volunteer at a Victorian and I just wish I had enough money to get one of my Victorian dress patterns sewn.

If you move more than 3 years ago, well, it didn't exist! It's a pretty new thing, but has gotten popular quite fast. This year the ball and show sold out well in advance!
DeleteYou look great! I love that green. Such a great color. And how fun! We love going to Virginia City. I've never had a chance to go for a costume event, though. Someday!
ReplyDeleteYou simply must come for one of the many costume things in VC! I don't recommend a hoop skirt, though - those buildings and doorways are quite narrow, lol
DeleteOh how fun! That bustle dress is just stunning. You look wonderful!
ReplyDeletethanks!
DeleteLooks like a blast!! I love the exchange students participating :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, they were good sports!
DeleteI just love your green dress. Just beautiful. Great pictures, hope all had a great time.
ReplyDeletethanks! it was great fun. :-)
DeleteYour favorite picture is of Carole Ann and Antony Ricketts. She's a really incredible artist who does printmaking and tradigital art. They also happen to be two totally fabulous human beings. :)
ReplyDeleteAh, shame on me, I should have known that. I recognize the names!
DeleteThose hats are just fabulous! And what a great picture. Pica is right - they are fabulous people too. Oh, and thanks for sharing the goofiest ever picture of me and Corwin. :) Someday, I'm going to strike a beautiful and elegant pose for you instead of a completely silly pose. Just wait. It will happen.

DeleteI love these all costumes...great pictures...
ReplyDeletethank you :-D
DeleteAll of these photos and outfits are so beautiful! I especially love your bustle gown, I'm planning my own in my head now :) However, you said that your train dragged on the ground! Have you ever thought of making a balayeuse? It helps preserve your trained gowns, and also gives it a bit more body to the train(plus that distinctive ruffle/lace under the hem you always see in old photographs and paintings). There's a great tutorial over at Yesterday's Thimble that helps explain it a bit more: http://yesterdaysthimble.com/tutorials/balayeuse/ (I hope it's okay to link you there in your post!)
