V240: Robe a la Francaise, 1740

Bwah, it’s one of *those* days, so here’s a beautiful gown to gaze upon…

The Met
Robe a la Francaise
1740s
British
Hand-painted silk, fly fringe trimmings

I’ll take a little opulence with my tea, please!

Thanks for sharing- this gown is divine! The fly fringe is amazing… just think of all the hours put towards the trim alone. Wish we all could have a gown like this in our wardrobes… sigh…

Gown as ever, is gorgeous. Proof that nothing succeeds like excess. But speaking of excess, can we attribute your "Bwah" to aftermath of the absinthe party? -k.

Hahaha, no, I'm not much of a party girl! I had one glass of rather enjoyable wormwood-free (it's the US after all) absinthe, talked awhile to a Belgian kid, then went home. That's all! See how boring I am!!

What is the yardage on this gown, do you suppose? If the motifs are spread apart to leave a lot of negative space, then it might not take so long! The skill to do it, however…and the materials…different story, haha!
