Coming up in June, our
local Steampunk group is hosting the first
Reno Tweed Ride, wherein a lot of nutters dress up in, well, tweed, and ride bicycles through Downtown Reno.
Yes, I'm bubbling with joy over this, but of course I need some more tweed in my closet! I have an outfit that could work already, either as a whole or in parts:
...but I'd like to make something new, or at least some new pieces to mix-and-match. Here is some inspiration:
I dearly want to make up the
Wearing History "Smooth Sailing" trousers in tweed, just to have for my normal wardrobe (and because I can't get this image out of my head:)

I have the pattern and will be off to our local Mill End Fabric (AKA Tweed Palace, and also sometimes Lace Mecca) to find the perfect yardage for the project. Then I suppose I'll pair it with a vest, a shirt, a tie (a bowtie?), and some sort of killer hat.
Of course, my bicycle is a seafoam green beach cruiser. I will in no way match it, or attempt to match it. We shall be glorious together in our clashing hues.
So that's next on my ever-growing list!
All of these are glorious (including you!)!
ReplyDeleteI love the couple in matching norfolk jackets!
Norfolk Jackets ftw. I need one. I have a great 1930s pattern that was my grandmother's, but it has to be graded up, like, 5 sizes to fit me, haha. I best get to work because I need one of these jackets in my life!
DeleteThis sounds awesome! I love the Smooth Sailing pattern. When I bike in them, I find I really have to make sure the legs are rolled up or tucked into my socks so that the chain/gears don't catch on the cuffs. That's my only problem with such wide pants.
ReplyDeleteI love all of those inspiration images. I'm an Anglophile and have always been a sucker for tweed.
ReplyDeleteThese are great pictures :)
ReplyDeleteLovely! We'll be joining a tweed ride the 16th of June :)
ReplyDeleteOh, how fun. A lot of choices.
ReplyDeleteall of the tweed!
ReplyDeleteALL OF IT.
Aaaaweeesoooomeee! These Russian riders rock, the lady especially. No, wait. They're both equally awesome!
ReplyDeleteI totally love the long Spats on the one from the Machester City Galleries. The Double-breasted waistcoat and jacket are just gorgeous too! You'll look great whatever you choose, you have an eye for these things!
ReplyDeleteHave a rollicking swell time! We had our 5th annual Fantastic Cleveland Tweed Ride a couple weeks ago, and it was quite the event. In fact, I blogged about the 2013 one here: http://senjivastudio.com/2014/04/24/tweed-ride-take-it-easy/ Looking forward to seeing what you come up with as your costume for the Reno Ride!!
