V188: Time to Start Planning for Costume College

This year will be my first time attending Costume College in LA.  Nervous? Yes!

I’ve determined that during the day, easy 20th c. vintage wear will be great, but then there are the special events that will require special costumes.  Those are..

  • The Gala
  • The Tea
  • Sunday Undies
  • Ice Cream Social
  • (we won’t arrive in time for the Pool Party, oh well)

So, what to wear?

For Tea

I’m thinking the pink vintage dress from The Haight, for the tea (even if one can’t do anything but stand up in it), and I only have one complete set of historical undies – 18th century.

Power-sew this whole gown in one month?

For Ice Cream social, should I wear the 1780s red polonaise, with its new red petticoat, or try to make up a new robe a l’anglaise a la polonaise in the “sherbetty” striped fabric I got for Colonial Williamsburg? (or finish the Polonaise Jacket of Doom and Hell, and wear that?)

This is the Nevada flag of 1905, and the one I will be interpreting…

As for the Gala, that’s top secret!!  All the Northern Nevada ladies will be wearing a historical ensemble of their choice, in Nevada blue and silver.  I’ve got mine started, but a long way to go.

And only one month to finish these things!!

I'm working on four costumes for CoCo! I call it The Insanity of July for a reason. Best of luck with yours! Can't wait to see what you pull out. 🙂

I'm pushing to finish some things for a big event a week and a half before Costume College. The upside is that at least those will be ready to bring. But yeah… insanity is a good word.

I wish I had as many choices already in hand as you do!! That said, several of us who're coming together are doing something for the pool party. I had forgotten about sunday undies…might have to push for some new under duds as well as those victorian threads that I'm working on for the Gala/ Red Carpet. workin like a dog- still with fingers crossed – hoping to finish in time!!

Ooo fun! I like the group-costume ideas that various contingents are planning. I can't wait to see everyone's!

I can't complain about the vacation my hubby planned, but the result is that I have 11 days left to sew for CoCo instead of the 4 weeks the rest of you have. Feel better? DuchieMom

I'm not sewing a single stinkin' thing for CoCo! Dance events up the wazoo the next few weeks, so it's vintage and "old stand-bys" all the way for me! But I'm excited to meet all the out-of-towners, that's what I'm really excited about! 🙂

Ooo how exciting! I'm so jealous! I'm planning on going next year. It's amazing what a deadline will do to you. All of a sudden you can sew at mach speed and get all kinds of stuff done. I wouldn't be surprised if you could totally knock out an Anglaise and use that super cute fabric.

    Have fun!

Just fyi – last year, there was an informal pool party on Sunday, and I think several people are still planning on doing one this year. I have no opinions on what all you should bring, though, but I know you'll look fabulous!

I'm currently in the middle of four projects, all of which are supposed to be finished for CosCol… I need more time!

Whatever you wear, whatever you make, you're always lovely. Knowing you,- you'll pull off something wonderful. BTW some of the gals–me included may change a couple times a day, so bring lots of things to change into.

Man, I am so, so envious! I want to go to CoCol, but it falls right in the middle of the semester and I'm stuck teaching. And I even have all the perfect outfits (I could wear my tea gown!). Good luck with getting all your stuff made. I'm sure you'll look gorgeous whatever you wear.
