What could be more glamorous than the bejeweled shoes of the 1920s? Footwear from this decade is especially iconic for historic shoe enthusiasts, and with good reason. The 1920s produced some of the most memorable and festive shoes there are. The revolutionary fashions of the time showed off ladies’ legs and ankles, and, when combined with the inspiration of the Art Deco movement and low light of jazz clubs, spectacular shoes were a must.

It has long been a dream of ours to recreate a shoe just like these, and we have finally done it with our new Marigold Rhinestone Pumps (which are 15% off on pre-order through April 21, 2025). Marigold is resplendent with real silk uppers in gorgeous colors, and- the pièce de résistance- our fabulous new rhinestone heel. This 3.5″/8.9 cm Spanish heel is coated with luxe satin black lacquer, and sparkles with glass rhinestones in a beautiful Deco pattern. While many rhinestone-studded items in contemporary fashion have heat-applied rhinestones, the stones on Marigold are inset into the heel by hand. This careful technique results in a high-quality heel that looks and feels so much more historic. It really is wonderful!

As always, when designing Marigold, we had a robust research phase where we examined all manner of glamorous 1920s shoes. Behold some of our favorites below.

Let’s start off with an elegant evening shoe c. 1925 from the collection at the Met Museum. These silk slippers are set off with a black lacquered rhinestone heel and a matching shoe clip.

Just look at these heels! These c. 1925 French heels were made by artisans who specialized in custom footwear with luxurious designs. Like the curators at the Kyoto Costume Institute (where these heels are housed), we have to say that these heels are an objet d’art to us.

Another pair of separate heels- these American heels are made from celluloid and rhinestones, like many examples of the time. From the collection at the Met Museum.

These gorgeous shoes c. 1925 from the Shoe Icons Museum have silk uppers, gold trim, and a heel encrusted with rhinestones in a geometric pattern.

These lovely pumps feature a rhinestone heel and vamp, and another hallmark of 1920s shoes- metallic kid leather, this time in silver. From the collection at the Shoe Icons Museum.

We heard you like rhinestones, so we put rhinestones on your rhinestones. These incredible Seymour Troy shoes are actually dated to 1933, as the trend for glamorous shoes continued into the 1930s. From the collection at the Met Museum.

Here we have another totally rhinestone encrusted shoe from the 1920s. This pair from the Shoe Icons Museum is actually a dedicated dancing shoe, with a strap over the instep and leather and satin uppers. Each one of these rhinestones is claw-set, and- these shoes came with a matching headpiece!

A slightly more subtle confection, these satin shoes c. 1922-25 Great Britain have a beautiful and delicate lacquered heel with inset rhinestones in a pattern that is reminiscent of dewdrops, or perhaps starlight. From the collection at the Shoe Icons Museum.

Have you been sufficiently inspired? Luckily, you can have your very own pair of silk 1920s pumps with a rhinestone heel, if you pre-order our new Marigold Pumps. Each pair is 15% off through April 21. After the pre-order ends, your favorite color and size may sell out, so secure them for a deal while you can!
