I’m motoring along on this project as fast as I can. I have little time to spare and too much to do to complete it in time for this coming Monday’s holiday photo shoot.
Last time, I had to remove all the bound buttonholes, and replace them with…something else. The idea is to add quite an explosion of silver trim, but the buttonholes need some stability in addition, so I couched some silver cording just around the edges. The silver trim will go on by hand, over the top, when the skirtings have been added to the bodice.

It’s not much to look at so far – the sleeve is without an arm, and the one skirt panel needs moving over a tad – but it’s really beginning to come together.

November 15, 2012 at 9:05 PMThe skirts are lined in a medium weight shantung I found at a local shop. It was a perfect color match, and lends some body and stiffness, without being too heavy.

November 15, 2012 at 4:15 PMThis is just spectacular! I so admire your patience in choosing another path after all the time you spent silver-wrapping those buttonholes! But you're right, they're so important to the beautiful line you're creating. No point in having them hanging out there in less than perfect condition. This is just gorgeous, and makes me long to design a winter wool coat using some of the classy elements — the skirt treatment, and wide cuffs!
