Steampunk Invasion of Virginia City, 2011

Gah, I’m so knackered still from this past weekend I just wan to post a few photos.

V&T Engine, pulling into the depot in Virginia City, from Carson City.

It was the second annual Steampunk Steam Engine ride from Carson City to Virginia City and back, but the first annual Victorian Steampunk Ball, an evening of music, dancing, and cookies, at Piper’s Opera House in Virginia City, put on by myself and three amazing and dedicated Steampunks all working together, like the gears in pocket watch.   …..

During the day, Steampunks arrived on the restored Virginia & Truckee steam engine, invaded the rickety and original old mining town, and generally represented awesomeness.

Shoes, pants (altered), vest (altered), spencer jacket are from Savers thrift store; hat is from Melting Pot World Emporium; socks are from Target.

I wore an outfit compiled almost completely of Savers Thrift Store finds I refashioned – trousers tailored down and cut off to make knickerbockers, a men’s vest cut down and tailored for lady shapes, a pair of Zodiac high heeled roper-type shoes, and a new tiny bowler hat…I got the last at Melting Pot World Emporium, here in Reno.

Evening came and the ball was a smash hit, with about 150 in attendance, and almost all of them in costume.  Mr. Chris was taking formal photos in one of the original box seats to stage right, and had such a queue of people that he didn’t get a break the whole night!

I wore the Madame X gown from awhile back.  I had never worn it, so this was its first time out of the closet, and I was very happy with it, even if I will never have the extreme hourglass shape.

All in all, SUCH an amazing Saturday, thanks to all of the people who came, and thanks to the other team members, Mary, Willie, and Luficarious.
