Evidence of Time Travelled and Costume Worn

Here are some photos from Saturday, our trip up to Valhalla Renaissance Faire at South Lake Tahoe.

I’m ever so pleased with this 1570s Elizabethan jacket.  I’ve wanted to make it for ages, and finally have.  I had no problems with wear – nothing came apart, undone, or unstitched!  The only problem was with fit through the shoulder s- I  need to pinch the shoulder seams at the neck, as they stood up in a strange way.  I flatlined the jacket, so this will be an easy fix.

I was going for a middle class townswoman look, so I paired the jacket and lineny-ish skirt with a high-collared blackworked shirt, my surprisingly Elizabethan Fugawee shoes, and that ridiculously tall hat I made last year.  The cool thing about this costume is that I could take it down in class with a different shirt, rougher shoes, and a straw hat.

So there you have it!  The coolest thing of all?  This ensemble cost me not one red cent to make.  It was compiled from fabrics and hardware I already had in my stash, and costume pieces I already had in my closet!  Now on to another thing I haven’t been showing you, but you’ll have to wait for the next post to see it :-)…

Me with my illustrious Lady Mother,
who greatly outranks me at fair and in life!

gorgeous ensemble! I have a great weakness for high-collared backworked shirts, too <3

I know, I'm being terra-bad with the Baroque. I need to finish it within the next couple weeks, so there will most definitely be posts. And I'll talk my photographer-man into taking some ace photos of it too, when it's done. I haven't forgotten!

Gorgeous, love the look, so nice to see an Elizabethan look that isn't about huge lace stand up fan collars and farthingales!

Yay, you look fabulous! Though, I must say, your good lady mother does look even fabulous-er! 😉 But, you do get extra points for being able to carry off the cap/hat/high neckline combo so well – all the times I've seen people wearing those they just don't look that great, but you look great… maybe it's the jaunty smile?

But yes, do please gief baroque, darn it!

MrsC, I have yet to wear a huge ruff needing a supportase, but I'm not adverse to it. We actually don't get that much up here – only the Queen wears a big one and even it is very understated.

And yes, Thief, I'm well aware that my mother is SO much cuter than me! She's an insatiable flirt too!!

Thanks for all the compliments on my hat. I resolve that if I cannot wear tall feathers, then I must wear a tall hat. I've seen some paintings of some CRAZY tall hats, really bizarre german things, but even that's too tall for me!
